Today I decided to find out some cool facts about music, rhythm & movement and how they not only affect us humans but also how they affect animals. I found some super cool info out so if you’re an animal lover I’m sure you’re going to love what I’m about to share with you!
Did you know that all animals that walk, crawl, swim, or fly, move in time to a beat? And animals like jellyfish swim to a pulse, even though they don’t have a brain!
Female jumping spiders “audition” potential mates by watching them shake it (dance) before them. If he’s a Travolta, they mate, if he’s a dork, she pounces, kills him and eats him.
In Chicago’s Lincoln Park, they studied what effect violin music had on various animals. The results; incredible!
Panthers loved “Home, Sweet Home”, as did a lioness with her cubs and a jaguar.
They loved it so much that the violinist gained enough of their trust to sit close to the cage while playing. When playing their favorite tune ‘Home, Sweet Home’, the family seemed very attentive and were motionless except that the cubs turned their heads from side to side.
When it was the coyotes turn, they formed a semi-circle and sat silently while the violinist did his thing. When he stopped, they got restless and started prancing about almost as saying, “Play us another song, mister!”
This experiment was repeated several times with the same result.
Pretty cool huh?
So, the next time you listen to music just think about this: It’s not only being absorbed by you and the people within ear shot but also animals, plants and all the life around you. What a great way to influence the atmosphere in your work space and home, don’t you think?
It really makes me believe that communication with rhythm and various types of music must have come before language.
What do you think? Leave your comments. I want to hear from you.
Have an awesome day!
